Celebrating at the Tableware Awards

Global industry publication Tableware International celebrated design and innovation at the Tableware International Awards of Excellence event on February 11, during Ambiente 2018

On Sunday, February 11, more than 200 people involved in the world of tableware gathered at Messe Frankfurt for the Tableware International Awards of Excellence.

This debut industry event, which took place in Hall 4.2, during Ambiente 2018, was held to both celebrate the tabletop industry and to announce the final winners in the Tableware International Awards of Excellence 2018.

"We were delighted so many fantastic tabletop companies, retailers and industry experts attended the first awards event," says editor Kate Birch. "We had a fantastic evening celebrating excellence in tabletop and were honoured to pay tribute to the wonderful companies and people that make this industry what it is.”

The evening, which was held in the dazzling Dimension room, began with drinks and networking, before Tableware International’s managing director, Malcolm Naish, kicked off proceedings, hailing the heritage of Tableware International and thanking everyone for participating and attending.

Acknowledging the importance and success of both Ambiente and Tableware International in the tabletop industry, Nicolette Neumann, vice-president of Ambiente, was up next, before host Stephan Föhr and editor Kate Birch took to the stage for the main event.

Some 48 finalists, the top three in each of the 16 categories, selected by Tableware International's prestigious panel of Awards judges, were acknowledged during the awards, before the final 16 winners were revealed.

Each of the winners took to the stage to receive their prestigious award, all delighted at such a tribute.

“To receive an award in the first-ever Tableware International Awards of Excellence is a great honour and achievement for us,” said Hannah Lambert, marketing, PR & events Manager at LSA International, who won the Serveware Category with its Tatra Collection.

While Anssi Hurme, creative director/founder of Magisso, which bagged the award in the Casual Glassware Category for its Pino Pint Glass said: “Receiving an award from such a well-acknowledged media and jury gives our winning design credibility and is a significant recognition for us.”

On receiving the Decorative Category award for its Fondale Series, Rosenthal’s head of creative center, Robert Suk, said: “Tableware International is a leading source of information and orientation in the tabletop world. Brands chosen will strongly benefit from the credibility and expertise of this institution.”

Following the announcements, guests stayed to mingle, listen to the music by band, Sous La Mer, and enjoy the food and drink.

Of the awards evening, Michael Ring, owner and CEO of Stelton, said: “We had a very good time, we enjoyed the ambiance and mingling and appreciated celebrating good design”; while Henrik Swartling, export sales director of Orrefors Kosta Boda felt “it was a great event with lots of new learnings and contacts exchanged”.

Julia Knight, owner of Julia Knight Collection said: “It was a beautiful event, well-staged, very well-run and lots of fun”; while Paul de Bretton Gordon, design director at Robert Welch felt the awards ceremony was “a well-paced, intimate event with interesting networking opportunities with like-minded people”.

And David Rive, general manager of Beatriz Ball, who described the awards as “a prestigious event on an international scale” added: “The evening was flawless, the awards briskly and efficiently presented, the music lively, the snacks and drinks top-notch, and the set-up allowed mingling and conversation”.

The event and awards are further being celebrated with Tableware International’s Awards of Excellence 2018 supplement, which will detail the winners in each of the categories, acknowledge the panel of international judges, and showcase photos of the evening. The Awards Supplement is part of the March/April 2018 issue of Tableware International and will be out at the end of March.
