Celebrating pen, ink and a love of writing – the UK’s only exclusive Stationery show comes to town

This month sees the UK Stationery Show taking centre stage at the Business Design Centre in Islington London from 24-25 April, plus the debut of a consumer-focussed ‘National Stationery Day’ - a PR initiative to coincide with the first day of the show.

The Stationery Show is the only UK exhibition dedicated to stationery products, writing instruments and accessories with everything from the everyday and functional to the opulent and funky.

What makes it so relevant to greeting card and gift retailers is the complimentary nature of stocking cards with stationery from writing instruments to notebooks, social stationery and accessories for school, office and home.

Show Director, Chris Leonard-Morgan said: “Card and Gift shops, by and large, already sell stationery.  The lines have not necessarily blurred but stationery is the perfect adjunct to cards and the two categories co-exist very comfortably together.

“Card shops are increasingly working out what they want to see as well as cards, and research I’ve seen shows that stationery is well up there on the list of products that card retailers want to stock.”

The retail affinity between the two categories is also driven by the customer. Chris adds: “A lot of stationery is bought by women and so too are greeting cards.”

The Stationery Show is in its fourth year and it’s the second time it has been truly independent. This year’s show is already bigger than last years with over 120 different suppliers confirmed.
“It’s a small, boutique-style show,” said Chris “Stationery doesn’t take up a lot of space. However there’s plenty to see, even in a small show.

“We’ve got everything all in one place and we’re very strong on pens and pencils.  There’s everything from children’s ranges to adults, from inexpensive pens up through all the different price points to premium ranges of silver pens.”
