Amazon giftcard is the top present

A survey carried out by The Plastic Card People has revealed that a gift card from Amazon is the favourite card-related gift to receive.

With so many online and high-street options to choose from, with each one of them competing against a host of rivals for your business, it can be easy to become overwhelmed when you're shopping for a gift card.

However, the results from this new survey may help shoppers make a more informed decision from now on. With 37% of the vote, it would appear the allure of being able to buy pretty much anything you want from Amazon, made it the obvious runaway winner. Amazon's fantastic selection of products ranges from high-quality cameras, the latest video games, techy tablets, fashionable clothing, kitchen and cooking appliances, jewellery, books and even car parts. With such a vast range of products available it seems obvious why Amazon is the place to go if you want a gift card – pretty much everything you could need is available to buy on there.

The second most wanted gift card among the UK population is from high-street favourite M&S. The retail giants received 17% of the vote, obviously appealing to people because of their fashion collections, quality food and wine and beauty products. General High Street vouchers likes those offered by the Love2Shop company also received 17% of the vote. Despite the rise of store websites and online shopping platforms, a retail therapy trip down the high street will always remain a popular pastime. A high street voucher from Love2Shop is often received with great gratitude, because of the fantastic range of shops that the gift card can be spent it – HMV, Boots, Debenhams, House of Fraser, Toys'R'Us, H. Samuel, River Island and many, many more.

The rest of the survey's findings were made up of 11% of people wanting a gift card for a nice meal out in a restaurant, 9% wanted a gift card to spend at Argos, while 7% of the UK would like a gift card to their local supermarket.

One notable name that didn't make it onto the list was Apple. With so many people downloading and streaming music and videos for free, the need or want to purchase an iTunes or Apple gift card appears to have dropped in recent times.
