Bigjigs Toys have been awarded the prestigious Slow Toy awards for their Around the World Train Set

Bigjigs Toys, a wooden toy manufacturer based in Folkestone, Kent, have been awarded the prestigious Slow Toy awards for their Around the World Train Set at a ceremony at Harrods magical Toy Kingdom.

The Slow Toy awards in their second year aims to highlight the ‘real’ toys on the market that do not require batteries or technology to be played with. A slow toy is a toy that ignites imagination, inspires creativity and gives children the freedom to develop at their own pace. It is a well made, good quality toy that stands the test of time and rather than distracting children; a Slow Toy has true play value.

This year’s judges included; Kate Carter, the life and style editor at the Guardian online, Liat Hughes Joshi, parenting journalist and author, Angelica Bell and Michael Underwood, the much loved children’s TV presenters, Annalise Quest, Director of Harrods Home and mummy blogger, Nicola Hinchliffe from ‘Monsters Fun House’. The judges used the following criteria to asses which toys should make up the Slow Seven:

- Must be available in independent stores
- Must inspire the mind
- Must not require batteries
- Must not be solely made from plastic
- It has to stand the test of time
- It has to promise true play value
- It must be a well made toy

The Around the World Train Set beat hundreds of entries to win this much sought after award, which includes winners from as far as Germany and America. As a winner, this 78 piece wooden train set, centred on iconic global landmarks including Big Ben, The Statue of Liberty, the Sydney Opera House and more, will be sold in the Harrods Toy Kingdom over the festive period.

George Poole, Marketing and PR Coordinator, comments “We are over the moon that the Around the World Train Set has been awarded such a prestigious award, beating hundreds of other toys in the process. It’s incredible to be part of an awards scheme that champions toys like ours!”
