Autumn Fair partners with global colour trend experts

ColourHive to share colour insights for 2020 and beyond

Autumn Fair, the season’s most important marketplace for home and gift retail, is to bring insights and practical applications on killer future trends and their applications to this year’s show, thanks to a partnership with top trend specialists ColourHive.

Trend insights from ColourHive have played a major part in the planning of this year’s Autumn Fair outing, and have provided a foundation for the 2019 re-edit. The impact of next season’s colour trends will be felt throughout the show in new features, speaker sessions, and in the styling and design around the NEC.

By immersing themselves in cultural, social and environmental changes globally, ColourHive chart how social drivers can impact the colours that will resonate with consumers. Without taking a moral stance on these socio-economic drivers, ColourHive are able to objectively interpret how such events can impact the behaviours of customers, and guide designers and product developers to create products that will fly off the shelves.

ColourHive will be on-hand to provide daily insights for next year and into 2021. Each day they will kick off the programme on the Inspiring Retail stage, taking visitors through how trends have evolved from Spring/Summer 2020 into Autumn/Winter 2020/21. This insight will hopefully give them the intelligence to look out for those items on the show floor that will fly off the shelves next year. They will also be presenting Spring/summer 2021 on the Sourcing Stage. This stage is dedicated to product development and will inform buyers, designers and sourcing specialists on what they should be thinking about when looking at colour, material, texture and finish to help reinforce their own design development decisions. By concentrating on these two critical trend periods for the first time

Autumn Fair is delivering trend content that is practical and inspiring to different types of buyers who are at different stages in terms of their buying cycles.

ColourHive will also drive the creative vision of Autumn Fair’s Autumn/Winter 2021 trend installation. Located in Hall 10, the installation will fuel the imaginations of visitors and help them understand how trend stories develop into finished products. This unique and creative feature will showcase the creativity and design led direction that Autumn Fair is moving in.

Julie Driscoll, Regional Director at Spring and Autumn Fair said: “Sourcing stock that doesn’t match what consumers are looking for in the upcoming year can have significant financial repercussions on retailers. The industry needs clear-cut guidance on the what will drive sales, not just through Q4, but also guidance on what products they should be planning for in 2020 and into 2021. That’s why we’ve brought ColourHive on-board to help visitors understand that getting approach right, and understanding how trend drivers influence what consumers will buy next year will be the key to unlocking better sales, no matter what category of products they’re buying for.

'Our partnership with ColourHive will help visitors to visualise and better understand how colour trends are established and identified. Working with ColourHive has really allowed us to live our commitment to always offering buyers a thoroughly trend-led show experience.'

Sam Donnachie, Executive Creative Director at ColourHive said: 'Colour is a fundamental part of the initial product development or refresh process. Indeed, when it comes to revamping a product for a new season or year, the first thing that designers will look to change is the colour. That’s why it’s immensely important for buyers to be proactive in understanding the colour trends and their drivers for the year ahead – so they can sort the ‘in’ products from those that won’t immediately appeal to their customers.

'This is why we’re really excited to be able to bring our expertise to Autumn Fair. We’ll be helping visitors to really get to grips with the tools and skills they’ll need to be able to spot the products that will drive sales throughout 2020 and into 2021.'

More than 22,000 visitors, and 1300 exhibitors are expected to descend on the NEC for Autumn Fair, representing the industry’s best opportunity for last minute stocking-up before the all-important Golden Quarter sales period and beyond for key buying points in 2020.

Autumn Fair runs from the 1 - 4 September 2019 at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre.
