Calico Cottage - a British Confectionery Manufacturer investing for the future
Since starting his fudge operation with just £100 back in 1989, Nigel Baker has established Calico Cottage as a well-trusted and reliable family business that helps small and large retailers to generate high profits from a small space. 2011 has seen the company grow significantly and plans are afoot to further accelerate this growth in 2012.
An enthusiastic Phil Glennon, owner of Coniston Post office told Gifts Today: "In tough times, visitors are still buying fudge and our fudge sales have grown through the recession with the help of Calico's promotions and support. To be able to say we make our own unique product has driven visitors through the door who, naturally enough, buy other items too. It has also kept us apart and ahead of our rivals!"
Phil put the Calico fudge programme into his store six years ago and it is now his most profitable item selling in excess of 4 tonnes of fudge between two outlets, one a post office gift shop and the other a gift shop and gallery. Fudge sells at nearly five times its cost and even though his post office has just one metre of fudge on display, it generates a very high proportion of his profits. Many customers make fudge in front of their visitors to create an attraction but some, like Phil make it behind the scenes as they are simply too busy selling it!
Calico makes fudge mixes in four varieties namely plain, caramel, chocolate and dark chocolate, from which hundreds of different varieties can be easily made. After putting the mixes in a fudge kettle with some butter and water, the kettle does the hard work unattended as it warms and mixes the fudge.
Calico's customers range from tourist attractions to small gift stores and they all reap the rewards of the company's success as it maintains below inflation price rises against a backdrop of raw material price increases far in excess of 25%. Calico is achieving this by investing heavily in new and more efficient production plant, all of which is made in the UK.
If you are looking for a British company that will help you generate exceptional profits and enable you to stand out from your competitors, then Calico present a hitherto untapped area of business.
Gifts Today understand that Calico will be exhibiting at Giving and Living, Exeter in January and at Spring Fair in February, however if you can't wait to sample the taste of success you can contact them directly.
