Call the Midwife game delivered

The multi-award-winning TV show which is loved by fans across the globe and now people can come as close to being part of the Poplar midwifery team as possible by playing the new board game, devised by Rachel Lowe

Set around East London, players become the midwives of Nonnatus House and have to overcome certain obstacles as they journey around the board trying to deliver as many babies as possible. Perhaps you will get a bicycle puncture or be diverted to the surgery to assist Dr Turner. It is a race to get back to Nonnatus House to find out where your next delivery will be.

Following the enormous success of the show’s Christmas Special, which was watched by 9.6million people and voted the best TV show of Christmas Day in a Radio Times poll as well as the current series on BBC One, the game would make a perfect gift for Mother’s Day on 31 March.

Rachel Lowe, from Portsmouth, is a creator of board games, and in 2017 released the official Jumanji board game based on the game from the original movie, which became top of the UK Amazon ranking in the board games category two years running alongside Cards Against Humanity and other best sellers.

Being a huge fan of Call the Midwife, Rachel designed the new game, alongside a 1000-piece puzzle and a card game.

She said: 'Call the Midwife is such a great show which we can all become emotionally connected to. I talk about the show with my own mum. The characters are relatable, and the story lines stir something deep inside us. I’m thrilled to be part of this world and bring the game to fans across the country this Mother’s Day. But it is a game for all the family and even if a player isn’t a fan of the show or know the characters they’ll be sure to enjoy the game.'

The game takes about an hour to complete and players take the characters of one of the midwives from the show. The midwife who delivers the most babies wins the game.

The Call the Midwife game is part of a collection of exciting games and activities, Rachel has brought to market. She has recently released a 500 and 1000 piece puzzle of Laurel and Hardy to celebrate the release of the new movie Stan & Ollie.

Fresh from last year’s cinema hit Hotel Transylvania 3, Rachel has devised the board game, 100-piece jigsaw puzzle and snap game to accompany the film, which game out on DVD in the Autumn. In this game, Drac and Mavis are embarking on a cruise ship adventure with the whole Drac Pack. Players have to compete in cruise ship activities and collect must-have travel accessories.
