Card company is local hero

Mantons Cards from the Isle of Man has taken home the bira Local Hero award 2016 to add to last year's Retailer of the Year prize.

It collected the award at the bira High Street Conference on 11 May.

The bira Local Hero award is given to a bira member which has engaged with its community and has helped or supported local initiatives with honour and credit.

Simon Bicknell of sponsors Toolbank presented the award at the Gala Dinner.

The judges said of Mantons Cards that it: "has been named as one of the most influential small businesses in its local community and regularly features in local press and radio for the contributions it makes to the community. Each year this business choses a charity to support and has helped raise over £13,500 for various charities in the past seven years.

"The current fundraising campaign includes a ‘card design competition’ where customers are invited to design a charity card that goes on sale. Fundraising for local charities is a core part of the business and in fact this business didn’t enter this category - the judges were so impressed with all the fundraising and local charity work that it does that they made the award."

The winner also takes away £1,000 to donate to its chosen charity.
