Continued Growth for Card Factory

Specialist greetings and gifts retailer’s latest trading update is looking good

Card Factory has announced a trading update for the business quarter ending 30 April, and headline news is the chain’s continued success.

The highlights include total sales growth of 6.5 per cent, continued store roll out with 20 new retail outlets opened and a strong line up of new store opportunities in the pipeline for the rest of 2016.

The total ‘Card Factory estate’ now consists of 834 stores with plans to deliver approximately 50 net new stores in the current financial year.

One of the chain’s online offerings Getting Personal is also facing very strong year comparatives, up 24.9 per cent.

Karen Hubbard, Card Factory’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “Following our record performance last year, we have had a reasonable start to the year. Whilst not completely immune to the weaker consumer confidence seen in 2016, the market for greetings cards in the UK has proven highly resilient in the past and our unrivalled value offer will continue to appeal to a broad range of customers.

"We remain confident of making further progress this year as we continue to expand our store portfolio and further improve our in store and online proposition. Overall, our expectations for the year remain unchanged.

"Having now taken over as CEO following an extensive induction programme, I remain impressed by the quality of the business and excited by the opportunities that lie ahead.”
