Double card shop winners

Stores in North Yorkshire and Essex take the gongs.

Cool Cards & Gifts in Skipton and Rathbone’s in Chingford have been recognised for the great range of cards, gifts, balloons and accessories they offer to customers and now go forward to the grand prize draw in December with the chance to win £1,000 worth of Cherry Orchard stock.

Tina Botterill, the owner of North Yorkshire-based August winners Cool, said: “I’m so pleased to receive this prestigious award. I try to offer customers a great range of quality products to choose from with a focus on providing excellent customer service, so it’s lovely to be able to display the certificate in my shop for all my customers to see.”

Tina added: “Earlier in the year, we also got to the finals of Best Greetings Card Retailer – new shop or branch – for the North of England in the industry Retas Awards.

“Being based in the Canal Quarter, we have lots of locals and tourists coming into the shop browsing for things that are unusual and different.”

“I choose the products for the shop very carefully, so customers have a great range of high-quality goods to choose from, so this award also reflects the attention to detail and focus on quality in the production of the cards and accessories from my chosen suppliers.”

Down in Essex, Rathbone’s owner Claire Richardson is pictured with Keith Taylor, the publishers’ Area Sales Manager for London and East, and was also delighted when she heard about winning the September title.

Claire said: “We try to offer our customers a great range of quality products to choose from and our focus is on providing excellent customer service, so to have all our hard work recognised is indeed an honour and a credit to our hardworking staff.
“The award doesn't just represent our shop window display and friendly customer service, but also the attention to detail and focus on quality in the production of the cards and accessories that our suppliers provide us with.

“Rathbone’s Cards have built up an excellent relationship over the years with our suppliers to ensure our customers can find exactly what they are looking for when they come into the shop.

“We know the greetings card industry is thriving, and we like to think when a customer leaves the shop, they’ll soon be back to complete their next purchase.

“Achieving the Shop of The Month Award lets our customers know they’re being served by a committed team of people who are dedicated to what they do. It’s a great achievement.”

The SOTM competition is being run to encourage Cherry Orchard’s independent retail stockists to promote their shops and reward them for providing a wide range of good quality products and high standards of service that bring people back into the High Street.

Cherry Orchard Marketing Manager Helen Pallen said: “This award recognises the dedication of the team behind the shop counter. It shows to the consumer that buying from independents offers a unique shopping experience and it will encourage more outlets to join in and get recognition for their own shop.”

To enter the competition send a shop photo to the publishers who post it on their social networking sites which can then be shared with customers to promote the business.

The Cherry Orchard judging panel then consider the presentation of products, service to customers and any incentives that are on offer to encourage shoppers. The winner of the grand prize draw will be announced at Spring Fair at Birmingham’s NEC in February.
