Iconic ‘Supercast’ brand is re-launched for the 21st Century by Studio Anne Carlton
Children of the 1990s will recognise the ‘Supercast’ brand with the fondest of memories as the only name in ‘make your own’ models. Now, Studio Anne Carlton, a world-leading brand of decorative chess sets and traditional games, has acquired the brand and will re-launch the brand for children and adults of all ages for the 21st Century.
Founded in Hull, East Yorkshire in the 1970’s ‘Supercast’ developed into a leading brand across the globe, as it gave people of all ages the chance to be creative and make their own bespoke, individual collectable models using latex moulds, plaster, paints and stain. By the 1990’s, under the ownership of Airfix/Humbrol, ‘Supercast’ sales had peaked within the toy and hobby sector.
It seems somewhat fitting that the brand should now be brought back home to Hull for exciting 21st Century development by one of the town’s most famous companies, Studio Anne Carlton [SAC].
The initial launch range will include generic collectables, historic characters and chess sets, but it will be in 2012 that the brand will really be taken forward in earnest with the development of some of the main children’s licenses and expansion into the tourist and souvenir sectors.
SAC managing director, Michael Lee advised Gifts Today thus: “The re-launch of Supercast’ presents the most exciting opportunity to recreate one of the toy and hobby sector’s most iconic brands and SAC is thrilled to be able to adapt and update the brand for the 21st Century.”
