London Stationery Show opens today

See all things stationery as doors open for 8th outing in London

Stationery lovers of the world can unite in the capital today, with the Show offering thousands of products and plenty for visitors to see, learn and do across the two days.

This time around at the Business Design Centre in Islington there are 155 exhibitors, of whom 79 are new to the show, including the dozen LaunchPad Competition winners, representing more than 300 brands and licences.

Among them are Collins, who will be launching their 2019 range to celebrate 200 years in business, while Portico Design are marking turning 30 with 70 new products, and GBA Pen have the 70th Anniversary edition of the famous Fisher Space Pen to show off.

The show is a great event for buyers to review what’s new in the sector and consider how writing and paper products fit their product mix – a fashionable gift, a must-have treat, a smart home or work essential – stationery is increasingly regarded as fashionable lifestyle accessory and an on-trend element of many product assortments.

Today will see the announcement of the Stationery Awards' winners at the end of the day, with a new Good Design category being judges by Cult Pens founders Simon and Amanda Walker, Waterstones’ buying manager Lucy Wilson, Jo Irons of Bureau Direct and Sidonie Warren, co-founder of Papersmiths.

There is also the first Stationery Trends Hub display by forecasting agency Scarlet Opus using exhibitor product to highlight what they expect to be happening in global consumer and design trends affecting the industry in 2019 and beyond.

The Live Talks programme is the most comprehensive yet, with Greetings Today editor Tracey Bearton kicking off the sessions at 10.15am today, plus the Creative Stationery Workshops are aimed at retailers wanting to engage with customers and create footfall.

The show marks the start of the industry’s search for Thirty Under 30: Class Of 2018, with a display of the 2017 nominees. You can be nominated as one of the up and coming industry names or put yourself forward!

And London Stationery Show will also be featuring the new Student competition in conjunction with The Paper Library, with placements being offered by three leading brands – Paperchase, Portico Design and Caroline Gardner – aimed at encouraging design students to consider the stationery industry as a good home for their talents.
