Matthew Rice is the very talented husband of Emma Bridgewater, not only is he responsible together with Emma for producing some of the best loved ceramics in Stoke on Trent, he writes books, and has a love of life, chickens, cooking and gardening!

Year in the Country is the culmination of all this, and Matthew has produced a calendar each year featuring these subjects. Earlier this year Elite Gift Boxes, who produce all the Emma Bridgewater tinware, launched a new series of giant tin trays, one of the highlights was one featuring a design by Matthew of an idyllic country scene, packed with chickens, architecture, and tea and scones! The huge success of the tray which sold out immediately meant that when Matthew and Elite met next, it seemed only logical to use this same design on a range of homewares tins.
