Another record year for Card Factory

Pre-tax profits almost doubled to over £80m.

Strong sales and new shop openings drove full year pre-tax profits to almost double at £83.7m at Card Factory, the UK’s leading specialist retailer of greeting cards, dressings and gifts.

Card Factory opened 50 new stores nationwide, bringing its total to 814.

Revenues were up 8 per cent to £381.6m, with sales at the Getting Personal online unit up 7.5 per cent.

The company relaunched its main website during the year, pushing online sales up 22.8 per cent.

Underlying earnings per share rose 17.2% to 19.1p and shareholders will be rewarded with a final dividend of 6p a share, up from 4.5p.

In November, the company returned £51m to shareholders via 15p-a-share special dividend.

“We believe that there is significant potential for further returns of surplus cash to shareholders in line with our stated policy,” said a company spokesman.
