Showstopping Performances

X-Factor stars entertain as trust raise £113,000 for work and honour retail legend

Honouring a retail legend and marking some of the successes over the past year while raising more than £113,000 were highlights of the RetailTrust’s recent Midsummer Celebration.

And the icing on the cake was the showstopping performances from The X-Factor’s Lauren Murray and Andrea Faustini as they entertained the 280-strong audience in the beautiful surroundings of Manchester Cathedral on 16 June.

The celebration brought together new and loyal supporters of the oldest charity which supports the 4.5million people in the UK who work in the retail industry and related sectors, and between them they raised more than £113,000 to help the trust continue delivering key programmes and initiatives.

RetailTrust CEO Richard Boland reported that they celebrated some of the great work and achievements the industry, working in partnership with the charity, achieved over the last 12 months.

These include the RetailHub team, who have helped employers take trauma management for individuals and large groups of employees to the next level, and the RetailRight career development programmes, where more than £1million has been invested in helping young disadvantaged people access fruitful careers in retail.

Successful retailer Eddie Bentley, a charity trustee for more than 30 years, was honoured for his work in the industry, he started at Littlewoods and rose to become Merchandise Operations Director for GUS Home Shopping then became MD of White Arrow Express, which he built into a national distribution business, subsequently becoming joint chairman of TNT/White Arrow.

Richard said: “Eddie has always been a strong champion and ambassador for the industry – it is for this dedication and support that he has been inducted into our RetailLegends academy.”

The night was hosted by presenter Darren Proctor and guests were treated to a drinks deception followed by a delicious three course meal with wine, prepared by top chefs from Harvey Nichols.

Richard added: “We look to the future with enthusiasm, conviction and confidence thanks to the wonderful patronage and support of all our friends in the north.

“My thanks to all who attended, all those who could not but supported in spirit, and to all of those who helped to create a superb evening which demonstrated the sectors enduring and ongoing support for the trust."
