Silver Speaks in New Exhibition

Year-long series of events is celebrating the creativity and skill of British silversmithing

The level of skilled design and craftsmanship that goes into the British jewellery industry has always been exceptional – and this of course includes silversmithing.

Now a year-long series of events is being across the UK to celebrate British silversmithing, shining the spotlight on exciting artists and designers working in the field.

Now a new exhibition, Silver Speaks: Form. exploring the skills and processes of contemporary British silversmiths is launching at London’s Goldsmiths’ Centre.

Running from June 1 to September 23, it will take a behind the scenes look at the techniques that enable makers to create work in silver. It will also showcase 33 pieces of work, alongside the makers’ tools, original samples and drawings.

The show complements Silver Speaks’ current V&A exhibition ‘Idea to Object’, which traces how a work in silver is brought into being from the design concept through to the final piece.

Karin Paynter, Director of Silver Speaks, says: ‘Contemporary British Silversmiths is putting silver on the world stage to show how beautiful pieces can be created to enhance contemporary living, architecture and fashion.’
