Teenage girls' shopping habits revealed

Teenage girls love spending time browsing in shops and take an age to buy gifts – right? Wrong.

An in-depth study has lifted the lid on the everyday teenage shopping habits. Research by Easyfairs, the organisers of Packaging Innovations, Empack and Label&Print, uniquely tracked the daily routine of teenage girls when shopping on and offline.

The study found that three-quarters of teenage girls prefer to shop online than in-store; they spend an average of 30 minutes to an hour per day online; decide what they want within a 10-20 minute timeframe and are more influenced by their friends than celebrities and take no notice of TV or radio advertising.

Alison Church, the Event Director for Easyfairs’ UK packaging events, said: “The rise in online shopping has been witnessed for some time, and it immediately questions what the future holds for traditional retail outlets. After John Lewis announced its hugely successful festive takings, it was hinted that it no longer required hundreds of high street outlets.”
