The Great Gift Company shortlisted for top UK buyers award

The Great Gift Company’s founder, Mette Downer, was recognised as one of the top five influential retail buyers in the UK at the NEC, Birmingham.

The Buyers Power 30 is a new award dedicated to celebrating people at the pinnacle of British Retail, with a shortlist of the “30 most noted buyers who are influential and distinguished in their sector because they are trendsetting, consistently making good buying decisions, have passion to support their industry and have enhanced a retail brand through their own efforts”. This list was entirely compiled and nominated by an advisory panel of key industry influencers, including the GA, Bira and BHETA.

The Great Gift Company's founder and CEO, Mette Downer was thrilled and honoured to be nominated by her peers to feature in the top five of a list of some stellar UK retailers, including John Lewis, Lakeland, Ocado, House of Fraser, Debenhams and Scribbler to name but a few.

“I was genuinely humbled to be included in the Buyers Power 30 list in the first place”, explains Mette, “particularly when I realised what amazing company I was in. It is wonderful to see The Great Gift Company competing against some of the larger retailers and it is so rewarding to see ones hard work pay off. It’s always lovely to be acknowledged for your efforts and it’s even sweeter when the accolades are given to you by your industry and your peers.”

“For us buyers, it’s getting increasingly difficult to keep our selections unusual; there’s more and more competition and as the world gets smaller and customers’ expectations keep rising, we need to be ever more ‘clever’, inventive and resourceful with our selections”, continues Mette. “I absolutely love my role of buying for The Great Gift Company and work really, really hard to have a fantastic, constantly evolving selection of Unusual Gifts for our customers”.
