Titan to publish Yellow Submarine graphic novel

Caroline Mickler Limited announces adaptation for film’s 50th anniversary in 2018

Caroline Mickler Ltd — which manages the UK licensing programme for both The Beatles and Yellow Submarine brands together with Apple Corps — has announced that comics and graphic novels publisher Titan Comics is to publish an official graphic novel adaptation of The Beatles’ iconic animated film, Yellow Submarine. This is a global agreement brokered by Bravado International, The Beatles’ North American licensing agent, and Caroline Mickler Ltd for the UK.

The graphic novel is due to hit UK stores in August this year to tie in with the 50th anniversary of the release of the movie, which will be rereleased on 8 July in picture houses and independent cinemas across the UK as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations. The graphic novel will be a 120-page publication in hardcover format. Aimed at an age range of nine to adult, it retells, in a completely new format, the film’s story of how John, Paul George and Ringo agree to accompany Captain Fred in his Yellow Submarine and go to Pepperland to free it from the music-hating Blue Meanies. In the UK it will retail in bookstores and specialist comic shops as well as online at major outlets and www.titan-comics.com

The Beatles: Yellow Submarine official graphic novel adaptation is written and illustrated by Bill Morrison – writer and artist from The Simpsons Comics and a huge fan of The Beatles, for whom this has been a labour of love, some 20 years in the making.

This is the first-ever graphic novel based on the Yellow Submarine brand. By introducing this intensely visual property into the vast market for graphic novels, The Beatles: Yellow Submarine is expected to attract a whole new generation to both Yellow Submarine and The Beatles.

Yellow Submarine is a much-loved and fun property that is also rich in extraordinary imagery, which, like the classic film that inspired it, still resonates powerfully 50 years after the release of the film. That’s why Yellow Submarine is today the focus of a varied range of licensed products ranging from games, toys, footwear, artwork prints and homeware to luggage and bags, apparel and babywear – and even Yellow Submarines figurines. Produced by Titan’s merchandising arm, they were previewed at BLE and will be launched later in 2018.

Caroline Mickler says: 'The global launch of the first-ever Yellow Submarine graphic novel is a major cause for celebration in its own right, but, thanks to the stunning artwork and brilliant storytelling of Bill Morrison, this stands out even in the graphic novel market – a market known for high-quality output. The Beatles: Yellow Submarine official graphic novel adaptation is both true to the spirit of this classic piece of animation and a genuine work of art.'
