UK retail sales bounce back

Sales rose by 1.6% in April

UK retail sales bounced back in April after a tough start to the year, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.

Sales rose by 1.6% in April as shoppers got back on the streets after unseasonable cold weather.

Fashion, petrol and food all helped to boost the April figure. In fact, the ONS says there was a 4.7% increase in petrol sales.

However, they added that in general, the retail sector was subdued.
