Wax Lyrical Green with Innovation

Cumbria candle company shortlisted for a prestigious award

Wax Lyrical has been shortlisted for a Green Innovation Award.

The much-loved Cumbria-based firm has been entered in the Insider’s Made in North West Awards 2016, which celebrate the best in manufacturing in the region.

The Green Innovation category winner will be the company deemed by the judges to have made the greatest commitment to minimising waste and pollution via product or process design.

Wax Lyrical’s eco initiatives, that have seen them named as a finalist, include an on-site 61m wind turbine which has replaced their use of non-renewable energy.

The company also sources as much material as possible from the North of England in order to reduce their carbon footprint. Company cars are chosen for their low carbon emissions and great fuel economy and a cycle-to-work scheme is actively promoted.

Waste reduction and re-cycling is an integral part of Wax Lyrical’s manufacturing process and the company’s landlord has recently received approval to develop a 250kw solar array which will, when built, significantly reduce their reliance on the National Grid.

Managing Director of Wax Lyrical, Joanna Barber (seen here photographed with chairman Mike Armstead), said: ‘We are delighted to see our green credentials recognised through these awards and are eagerly awaiting the awards event later this year.’

Winners of the awards will be announced at a gala dinner at Bolton Whites Hotel, Macron Stadium, Bolton, on Thursday 5 May.
