Yankee Candle Raises ‘Cracking’ Funds for Bristol Children’s Hospital

Earlier in the year we announced our latest initiative at Yankee Candle to help raise funds for The Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital charity

This took form in the sponsorship of one of 80 giant decorated Gromits, positioned on a public art trail around Bristol as part of the charity’s Gromit Unleashed project.

After 10 weeks on the trail, the Gromit Unleashed sculptures designed by famous artists, designers, and celebrities, and prominent local artists, went to auction with all funds raised going towards the charity to support the expansion of Bristol Children’s Hospital: The auction raised an incredible £2.3 million and we are absolutely delighted that our Gromit raised a fantastic £30,000.

Named ‘NewFoundLand’, the Yankee Candle Gromit was hand-painted with an intricate world map by the interior design duo ‘One Red Shoe’. The Gromit was positioned aboard The Matthew, a replica sailing ship which sailed from Bristol to North America (thought to be Newfoundland), where we held a number of promotional days to attract the trail followers.

As the charity is close to our heart, we are continuing to plan further fund raising initiatives. On the 21st December we are donating £1 from every sale of a specific Yankee Candle product during a QVC Cares charity day.

This initiative aims to replicate the success of the A Child’s Wish fund-raising that took place earlier in the year: between a 3 month period all proceeds from online sales of the fragrance were donated to the cause, giving consumers the opportunity to also help support the charity and raising a fantastic £1,321.

Sarah Vipond, Corporate Partnerships Manager at The Grand Appeal, commented: “We have worked with Yankee Candle for the last 3 years and were delighted when they came on board as a Founding Sponsor of Gromit Unleashed.

To date they have raised an amazing £19,950.04 to support sick babies and children from all over the South West and we are hugely grateful to the team for their incredibly generous support.”
Working together with our employees as a fundraising team, we aim to continue to increase our total fund-raising amount and look forward to revealing new initiatives in the near future.
